I've Actually Started To Wear Shimmer Blush
Or at least, not matte blush.

This winter is sucking the life right out of my face. Seriously. Even though it has been warm, even for New Orleans standards, it has been gray and dry and just... blah. Like, cool, thanks global warming for the 70 degree winter weather but could you toss in a little bit of sun too? My plants and glowy skin are needing some of that vitamin D.
To add some much needed (really, I swear I'm not a ghost even though I've been watching a lot of Ghost Whisperer) color to my visage I've been turning to blush. Duh. Obviously the answer is blush, but, to get that glow back (without getting that cool girl wet face look) I've been going for shimmer blush. The kind that makes it look like you've taken (ahem) a brisk walk. Those kinds of blushes.
The way I see it, glowy blushes can go two ways. They can either be the kind that gives that little bit of not-matte sheen, or they can be over the top, really just pink-ish highlighters. I'm sure you're not surprised that the subtle glowing blushes are my favorite but I do have a couple mega glowing blushes that fit the bill.
The best of the best of the subtle glowing blushes has to be the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Luminous Flush. It's just too perfect. Actually, all the colors are pretty great, but Luminous Flush is my favorite. And they are so pretty to look at with all that marbling. Stop it Hourglass, you're too much.
The ambient lighting blushes are the most subtle, glowing blushes of this roundup. They're a great option for literally everyone, you just can't go wrong.
For a hard to find option, try the Hema Wet And Dry Blush in Red. It's as close to an Hourglass dupe I've ever encountered at drugstore prices. Unfortunately it was sent from a friend in The Netherlands so, it's pretty hard to find state-side. But I mean, that color tho. It's the perfect rusty red to wear in winter.
For a much easier to find drugstore alternative, you can't go wrong with the Milani Baked Blush in Luminoso. It's THAT blush from a few years ago. The light peachy color is perfect all year long. It just gives you a slight flush of color over the cheeks that makes you look all awake and peachy.
When I want to bring out that mega watt shine I turn to the *Makeup Geek Blush in Romance. It is hailed as a NARS Orgasm dupe (like so, so, many other blushes). And I FINALLY get the appeal.
I used to be so out on the golden shine of this (and NARS Orgasm) but now that my face looks like actual death without blush, I'm digging it. Plus, the shine? Super helpful when you've got dry winter skin.
For the boldest and shiniest of the lot, I've got the *Hard Candy Glow All The Way Blush. Holy cow, kids. This is by far and away the shiniest blush I've ever witnessed. I like that these glow all the way blushes have an ombre effect because the lighter side can be worn as your standard highlight. If you want to look like a lit angel, that is.
