Power Lipstick For When You Really Need It (Like Right Now)
Well there friends.
I originally thought up this post with a the angle of: bad ass lipsticks that make you feel powerful (instead of a pant suit). Aimed to run after what I assumed would be a historic victory of Hillary Clinton as our first female president. Obviously that didn't happen and I think I'm finally done mourning that loss. I mean, I'm still angry, but I haven't cried in the last two days so let's say the sad part is done for me.
Instead let's have a chat about the lipsticks that make you feel powerful because you probably really need some strength and power in your life right now as a lipstick (or not) wearer.
Honestly, I've written and rewritten this post a few times now and I'm just not quite getting out what I want to say. I've waited a few days to say my piece, I guess, and I didn't want to bog you down with more depressing thoughts. So now I'm going for more of a lift you up kind of feeling.
Lipstick, especially on bad/sad/tired/hard days, has the power to lift you up. It can give you a fresh take, give you a pep in your step, and can make you feel like a total bad ass. We need this power, this little token of strength in the days ahead. If you are someone who wears lipstick because it makes you feel good, wear it. I've been gravitating to brighter, bolder, less traditional colors lately because they make me feel like I can kick some ass.
I love wearing bold lipstick because, like my good friend Tegan once told me, it can be armor to get you through the day. We need that armor to fight. To say something when we see something. To do what we know is right to protect the rights of women, minorities, LGBTQ+ people, religious freedom, the environment and so, so much more.
So do what you need to do to take care of yourself and others right now. If that means two hour bubble baths, go for it! If that means wearing lipstick, I'm all for it. If it means volunteering, or peacefully protesting, or paying it forward, do it! There are so many organizations that will rely on donations in the coming years, so please consider donating what you can.
I know things are more than a little complicated right now. It's hard to write about because it's hard to think about, honestly. I fully plan on going right on back to the regular beauty banter to give myself (and you!) a place to escape to. A place where talking extensively about my bangs, favorite lipsticks, and the nail polishes I'm loving is encouraged. We all need a place to escape to sometimes.
So let me know - do you have a favorite power lipstick? What is your favorite escape during stressful times?
