The new it color.

I am not nor do I think I'll ever be a trend setting, public influencing, fashion icon. But I've recently worked some hot red orange action into my clothing and makeup wardrobe and I'm not looking back people! Change is here and it's color is red orange.
For far, far too long I've been a wearer of clothes that aren't anyone's definition of fun. I have held steadfast to the ideal that basics are important and will always look good. But, I'm a forever under-accessorizer which makes basics pretty boring. Given my safety colors of white, black, gray, and denim blues my whole wardrobe looked sad.
But then, my friends, one day I was walking through my local thrifting haunt and a shirt called to me. A beacon of fluorescent light fell down upon this shirt from across the room and I knew I needed to have it. Pictured above and below this red orange shirt with navy blue stripes had my name written all over it.
The exact shirt I have is a mismarked XL from Target's very own Merona that was new with tags. Bless. Although it's way too hot to wear right now (it's a gorgeous thick cotton blend) it will be on my bod 24/7 as soon as the temperatures drop. Here's a link to the absolute closest match I could find.
Until then I'll be sweating it out in this (more orangey than red orange) tank from Old Navy. Not exactly a charmer of a neckline going on there but the color is making up for the fact that it's, let's say, original in it's construction. Better yet, let's call it a '90s inspired spaghetti strap tank. That feels better.
Obviously clothes aren't getting all the fun, I've worked some red orange lipsticks into my routine too. I just had to.
I have three and only three picks of orange lip favorites right now and they are as follows:
- Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in Audacious
- Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick in Countess
- *Lancome Matte Shaker in Magic Orange
I'm big into matte textures right now, if you can't tell. If I want just a hint of color and a bit more hydration (or more accurately, less dehydration) I'll go for the Revlon Matte Balm. It's got just enough of that orange color to do the matchy-matchy thing I love so much but it isn't overbearing.
For more of a punch of red orange lip magic I'll turn to either Kat Von D's Countess, or Lancome's Magic Orange. The KVD lipstick, as a standard lipstick isn't going to wear for as long as the matte shaker liquid lipstick but they're both perfect picks for the matching look.
Next on the list? A red orange bag... dreamy.
